Budget hotels for the design conscious

4 07 2007

Think of an Ibis or Travelodge wrapped up in a design concept which doesn’t make you want to vomit… The Qbic chain launched this week in Amsterdam,  (with locations in Antwerp and Maastricht to follow). The concept is based on every room being a 7-square metre cube or “Cubi”, which is stripped of anything any self-respecting metrosexual wouldn’t need. The pre-requisites: a comfy bed, desk, flatscreen TV, DVD player and, naturally wireless broadband access. The price? Starting from a very respectable €39 per night, with prices rising as availability thins out, borrowing a trick from budget airlines.
