The Walt Disney Company has paid US $350 million, potentially rising by the same amount again based on performance over the next two years, for pre-teens social network Club Penguin.
Launched in late 2005, the service provides an ad-free, snow-covered virtual world for six to 14-year-olds to interact with eachother. Following the takeover, Club Penguin will be re-named Disney Club Penguin and be used to cross-promote other Disney properties.
Last reported figures state 700,000 subscribers (each paying $5.95 / month) and 12 million active users, mainly based in North America; though post-acquisition Disney has big plans for expanding the property in Asia and Japan. Competitors include Webkinz, Stardoll, Gaia, Habbo Hotel and Viacom-owned Neopets.

I played Club Penguin for awhile, it gets boring pretty fast. I currently play Neopets, I think that Viacom has done wonders for the site. It also has some pay features, but it is still entertaining to play without them, unlike Club Penguin. I do hope Neopets grows even more in the next few months. Come join the fun!

I love CP. I do not really think that they are fair. Paying for membership is a bad idea but giving it to charity is. I got a membership for my birthday. My grandma pays it. It is a lot funner because there are more things to do. But they should have the option of being a member or not and that way they can do whatever. No matter what. They should keep some things for members but let everyone dress up.
i think club penguin is grate for kids . its cool for kids to play all the games and make new friends. i think it teaches kids responsebilitly,like you have save money to buy a puffle and if you dont take care of it ,your puffle will run away. it teaches kids that small step to prepare for the real world.

ok, I got bored of webkinz after I turned ten, and I was only on for a year. Webkinz is so babyish! Neopets was the same. But club penguin (I’ve been on for two years now) has gotten better! I love how it changes with parties, and I love when thousands of people swarm around me for no reason what-so-ever when I walk around. It was NEVER boring, and even though stupid disney took over, I bet CP will stay pretty much the same! I love club penguin and I hope it will never change!

PLANETCAZMO.COM may be “fair” but they do not withstand up to the claims posted on the parents page as being a safe community. They are ignorant in the fact that they did not preview the music they provides on their music player. My daughter and I were disgusted when one song mentions male genitals, the “b” word, the “f” bomb and racism. After reviewing some of the other music on there… there were numerous songs also containing the same. We contacted Planet Cazmo in regards to this in which they never relied and the offensive material still resides on their site.

i don’t really play on club penguin anymore because when Walt Disney and club penguin joined up, club penguin got a lot more boring.
The most funnest thing you can do to your penguin is get items, you feel really decent if you like got over 100 items as you can see that i’ve been on club penguin for over 3 years.
i also got the rarest and most oldest pin in club penguin which is The Shamrock pin.
i probably got over 700 items now and there’s no joke!

Club penguin is the best virtual game for kids like us. It is safe so no kids can be rude or anything like that. The game is fun with games and you can meet new friends and experience something you have never experienced in your life.

Maybe you find money on the street, maybe you save up your chore money, maybe your parents give it to you for your birthday. You know what? You don’t have to be rich to get a membership, alot of people who aren’t rich can still get money for christmas or birthdays. And it also doesn’t mean we are snobby, i am a member im not poor im not rich im just right. We are not spoiled if we find money on the street or get money for are birthdays and christmas, or even if we save up money from are chores. And for all you rich kids out there I don’t think your snobby, you only see that stuff in movies.
I am a member on Club Penguin (and I really should not be posting because everybody here seems to hate members) but I pay with it out of my weekly spends (£3 a week and it’s going up D:). I can remember when I wasn’t a member and I was really sad but now I pay monthly. Being a member is cool and everything (I love decorating my igloo :D) but I don’t treat non – members like poor people D:. One of my best friends is a non – member :). Paying is poop though. And I spend more time on Neopets now (it is the most awesome site ever! You must join :D).
Oh, and to Sneha108 = NOT ALL MEMBERS ARE LIKE THAT! I’m not snobby or bratty or whatever! What you said was just rude. It’s not our fault that people have to pay – we want it to be free as much as you do!

I think club penguin is great it is funny, but the one thing I dont like is that you have to become a member to get everything well nearly! You can meet new things! The parties are really cool. But since disney have taken over it has changed I like club penguin the old way but I will still play on it the games are getting better and it is really cool people should try it out sometime it is fantastic!

I’m not a big fan of Club Penguin (a bit too old, eh?). But I wish it was never sold to Disney it was way better the way it was I feel like swearing and … hitting them its so annoying the game was way better before and now they make you pay to be memeber for like everything, except walking around and like playing the first level of each game. They suck! And why rename it to Disney Club Penguin you don’t need to make it that obvious that Disney owns it coz people can already tell coz the game has turned lame you dont have to rub it in our face, I say bugger off and start thinking of you players not your own pocket.
