Never forget

Poppy

Futility by Wilfrid Owen

Move him into the sun–
Gently its touch awoke him once,
At home, whispering of fields unsown.
Always it woke him, even in France,
Until this morning and this snow.
If anything might rouse him now
The kind old sun will know.

Think how it wakes the seeds,–
Woke, once, the clays of a cold star.
Are limbs, so dear-achieved, are sides,
Full-nerved– still warm,– too hard to stir?
Was it for this the clay grew tall?
— O what made fatuous sunbeams toil
To break earth’s sleep at all?

Of psychotic potheads and drunken astronauts

27 07 2007

Light and shade in today’s news:

If you’ve smoked cannabis you’re 40% more likely to suffer psychotic illness than had you not done so, according to a new study by British academics. In its coverage, the London Times suggests the research coincides with the beginning of the end of the UK government’s softly-softly stance on pot.

Also reported today, a panel of NASA doctors has cited at least two instances of astronauts working whilst intoxicated; the report also cites the first known occasion that a space installation has been ‘sabotaged’ — the work of dark powers or maybe the astronaut responsible was plastered?
