At last! Ad-funded Wi-Fi

It’s easy to take wireless connectivity for granted and especially galling when you’re a hostage of fortune in certain places and have to pay exhorbitant fees for connecting –British Airways, Hilton hotels are among the worst offenders.

So as there’s apparently no such thing as a free lunch, kudos to San Francisco firm JiWire, which promises to bring us free Wi-Fi connections in prime locations, provided we’re prepared to suffer a commercial message or two — though the cynic in me wonders if certain companies will use the technology to both charge us for connectivity and cream additional revenue off the top by also subjecting us to adverts.
